Position: Miner
Grade: CL
Reports To: Mine Overseer
Purpose of the Job
The Miner is responsible for effectively operating a stoping panel and/or development end during their shift. The role involves ensuring safe working practices, continuous inspection of panel and/or end conditions, planning to achieve operational targets, and monitoring the availability of resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Grade 10 or equivalent.
Competent A&B certificate is mandatory.
Blasting Certificate (DMRE/MQA Level 3).
Minimum Experience
At least one year of experience as a Crew Captain.
Previous experience as LHD, Bolter, or Drill Rig Operator is advantageous.
Experience in mechanized mining is an added benefit.
Minimum of three years’ experience in a mining environment.
Competencies & Requirements
Legal Accountability: The Miner is legally accountable for the stoping panel/development end and blasting in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with the crew and management, including daily mining plans.
Safety: Participation in safety meetings and conducting accident and incident investigations.
PPE Compliance: Ensuring crew adherence to required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Administrative Skills: Completing role administration requirements accurately.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct daily re-entry examinations and risk assessments.
Allocate responsibilities and provide necessary support to the crew.
Mark support and identify reef bands as per geological reports.
Charge the face and ensure safe blasting procedures.
Provide information to the control room for shift/work report compilation.
Terms & Conditions
The successful candidate will be appointed only if medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996. Applicants may be required to undergo job-related assessments as part of the selection process. Background checks (credit, criminal, and references) may be conducted by the Mine if necessary.
