About the Learnership:
The Fire Fighters Learnership program offers aspiring individuals the opportunity to train and develop skills needed for a successful career in firefighting. Participants will gain valuable experience in various aspects of fire safety and emergency response.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Grade 12.
Must pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).
Must undergo a medical test in accordance with NFPA 1582 guidelines.
A valid Code C1 driver’s license is required.
Experience:
No prior experience necessary, but candidates must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
Language Skills:
Proficiency in at least two (2) of the official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa) – speaking, reading, and writing.
Physical and Mental Fitness:
Candidates must be physically fit and able to operate under extreme conditions and temperatures.
Pass a departmental physical test upon entry and annually thereafter.
No internal phobias related to confined spaces, heights, water, blood, darkness, isolation, or corpses.
Clear Criminal Record:
A police clearance document not older than three (3) months must accompany your application.
Job Purpose:
As a Fire Fighter Learner, you will perform various tasks associated with firefighting and emergency services, including:
Responding to emergency incidents.
Rendering basic medical care.
Maintaining fire fighting equipment and facilities.
Assisting with public education and safety initiatives.
Key Performance Areas:
Once training and minimum qualifications have been achieved, successful candidates will:
Engage in firefighting operations under the mentorship of senior officers.
Prepare for emergency incidents and support community safety efforts.
Maintain safety and operational efficiency at emergency incidents.
